CAN - ISO 11898

BUS-system for automotive diagnostic and flash applications

The CAN bus was introduced to enable the networking of a large number of ECUs. As it allows considerably higher data rates than its predecessors (K-Line, J1708), it soon started being used for diagnostics and flash programming.

Today, the CAN bus is still the prevailing vehicle bus and also permissible for OBD purposes. In the auto sector, the trend is now toward Ethernet connection and the faster CAN FD.

Softing experience in DoIP

Softing has supported the CAN bus for decades. Today, it is integrated in all our diagnostic interfaces and our communication interfaces. A large number of standardized and manufacturer-specific protocols have been implemented on the basis of the CAN bus.
